The Rule of Thirds creates more intrest when applied to pictures. It is about not centering things in the middle of an image. Instead you split your screen into 3 both ways and have the focal part of the image fall along one of those lines. Jelly Belly has a Harry Potter Golden Snitch advertisement that follows this principle. The Golden Snitch box is on one of the lines.

Fitt's Law is all about making the most important button or buttons easy to use. The size of the button is determined by the frequency of use. The most important buttons on this page are very easy to find and use.

Alignment happens in many different places. It can be horizontal or vertical, at the edge or the screen or in the middle, or through the middle of items. This website makes use of top vertical alignment frequently in their rows. They also use horizontal alignment with their four columns that span different rows. The header is centered vertically.
